Pop Punk Frequency Spectrum vs. Pink Noise

Five Pop Punk records measured against pink noise, every track gain-matched to -14 LUFS:

  • blink-182 “MORE THAN YOU KNOW”
  • Sum 41 “Landmines”
  • The Story So Far “Big Blind”
  • Sueco “Paralyzed”
  • Neck Deep “Dumbstruck Dumbf**k”

Pop punk is a bass-and-midrange record: 60–250 Hz sits 5 dB over pink, the midrange and high mids 2–3 dB over, and the sub barely above it. The image is wide from the low mids up, wider than the other rock sets. The snare is outlined in all five tracks in a tight 193–217 Hz band, and the air falls about 6 dB below pink.
